Adaptive Clothing

“Incontinence & Wandering” can be  problems for your dementia or Alzheimers patient. Adaptive clothing can be a godsend and solve many problems. Incontinence can be the final straw on why families need to move a loved one into an assisted living or nursing home. Before going to bed, you can put a Depends type product on a dementia patient and put on adaptive pajamas with a back facing zipper. We experienced many wet mornings before we started this routine and it worked terrific. The key is that the patient can not “get out of the pajamas” with the back facing zipper and the Depends stays in place. Some patients will also “wander” during the night and it can be embarrassing to all involved if they are not wearing any clothes. Another great example of adaptive clothing is comfortable “track suits” for wheelchair patients that are more stylish and functional than the typical gray sweatpants that you see. Amazon has an adaptive clothing department and is a great place to order these items.
